Snider’s Classic Beef Pot Roast

This pot roast recipe is sure to impress even the pickiest of eaters.  It yields an aromatic, sweet, and savory pot roast that is both tender and succulent.

Ingredients:

 

  • 3-4 lb chuck roast
  • Snider’s complimentary house rub
  • 2 sweet yellow onions (cut into quarters)
  • 4-6 garlic cloves (crushed if desired)
  • 10-15 baby red potatoes
  • 2-3 whole carrots (cut into 1 inch pieces)
  • Fresh rosemary (to taste)
  • Fresh sage (to taste)
  • Fresh thyme ( to taste)
  • 1-2 bay leaves
  • 1 ½ – 2 cups of flour
  • 3-4 tbs butter (may be substituted for olive oil)
  • 4-6 cups of Snider’s ajus.
  • Optional: 2 cups of Hunter Sauce.


Directions for the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 325⁰
  2. Season the chuck roast with our house rub or feel free to ask us to do it for you. Let the rub set for a few minutes then bread the roast with the flour and set aside for 5-10 minutes allowing the breading to set.
  3. In a large pot, that can be used both in the oven and on a stove top, melt the butter over a medium to medium-high heat and brown the chuck roast. (7-10 minutes)
  4. Add the onions and garlic in order to lightly saute them. (5-7 minutes)
  5. Add the ajus, carrots , potatoes, carrots, bay leaf and fresh herbs to the pot and place in the oven , the lid covered, for 4-6 hours.
    1. Optional: Replace 2 cups of the ajus with our Hunter Sauce (red wine reduction and cream of mushroom) for a more robust flavor.
  6. To check if your roast is ready take a fork and pull on the roast, if it pulls apart easily then it is ready to serve.

Directions for the Crock Pot

  1. Season the chuck roast with our house rub or feel free to ask us to do it for you. Let the rub set for a few minutes then bread the roast with the flour and set aside for 5-10 minutes allowing the breading to set.
  2. In a large sauce pan, melt the butter over a medium or medium-high heat and brown the chuck roast. (7-10 minutes)
  3. Add the onions and garlic in order to lightly sauté them. (5-7 minutes)
  4. Place the browned Chuck Roast and the entire contents of the pan into the crock pot along with the ajus, potatoes, carrots, fresh herbs and bay leaf(s).Optional: Replace 2 cups of the ajus with our Hunter Sauce (red wine reduction and cream of mushroom) for a more robust flavor.
  5. Cook the Roast in the Crock Pot on a low setting for approximately 8-9 hours or a medium setting for 7-8 hours.
  6. To check if your roast is ready take a fork and pull on the roast, if it pulls apart easily then it is ready to serve.
